Congratulations go to Pat Parker who has won our National Gallery of Australia Masterpieces from Paris Competition. Pat shopped at the Old Bus Depot Markets during February and put in an entry to the draw. Pat has won 10 tickets to the exhibition and an exhibition prize pack.

With still 4 weeks left of the exhibition we are sure that Pat will be blown away by the artworks that have been seen by over 260,000 visitors, making it the biggest exhibition in the gallery’s history. Congratulations Pat.

Experience International Day at the Markets Sunday Feb 14

A celebration of our multicultural community in Canberra with delicious multicultural foods, stalls with exquisite handcrafted products, and local music and dance groups performing traditional dances from their country of origin.

Savour wonderful dishes such as empanadas from Spain, chicken stir frys from Laos, samosas and Key Wat from Ethiopia, croque monsieur from France and real burritos from Mexico.

Take home food includes Turkish burek, Thai curry and stir fry pastes, French nougat, and real Indian chutneys.

Handcrafted treasures from around the world will feature bright lanterns and silk handbags from Vietnam; mysterious blackwood statues from Africa; hand felted Nepalese slippers and brooches; Persian handknotted rugs; Umbrian ceramics; French provincial textiles; Balinese homewares and more.

The performance program starts with the Prosporous Mountain Lion Dancers in the morning and moves to Kokoloco; Belly Up Belly dancers; Tango Tango, Argentinian tango, and Drum Effect in the outside courtyard.

To all friends of the Old Bus Depot Markets, we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

The last markets for the year will be held Saturday 19th and Sunday the 20th December so don’t miss the chance to by your last christmas pressies.

All of our stallholders are taking a few weeks off and we will be returning Sunday January 10th with our first theme day for 2010 – Portobello Road – Antiques and Collectables

No need to do any baking this year – you will find Christmas panforte, Christmas Puds, Christmas cakes, and shortbread all weekend.

Description: Canberra is a region brimming with textile artists, who weave, design and make knitted garments, embroider, hand dye fabrics and yarns, make lace, and handfelt accessories or homewares.

Creative Fibre is an event where visitors can speak to the artist about their textile speciality and learn about the processes involved. ANU School of Arts, Textile Design and the ACT Textiles Art Association will also be on hand along with Canberra Regional Guilds who will demonstrate on the day and be available to answer questions.
